Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan Blessed with Baby Girl Child Today

So, the wait is finally over. Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have been blessed with a baby girl child today. As we informed earlier, the delivery has taken place at Seven Hills city hospital.

“IT’S A GIRL!,” Abhishek, also a top actor, wrote on his Twitter account,
@juniorbachchan, without giving any further details.

Bachchan’s father, bollywood legend Amitabh, tweeted his joy at the new arrival: “A dada ji (a
grandfather)…Ecstatic!”, calling his new granddaughter “the cutest baby girl”.

Well, media has been covering almost every single detail of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s pregnancy and speculation about the day and time of birth. Some of them have even gone a way ahead with giving a firm date of 11/11/11 as the day having been decided by Bachchan’s for the delivery. However, Bachchan’s specially Abhishek Bhachchan has denied any truth in such stories. It is speculated that most of the TV channels have been even preparing for telecast of special 11/11/11 astro programmes linking it with Junior Bachchan’s birth. The junior Bachchan’s arrival is supposedly due on any day after 10th November 2011.

The much speculated birth of the junior most Bachchan has a new twist to the story. Apparently an internal memo has been sent to all the leading news channels by the Broadcast Editors’ Association to restrict the coverage of Aiswarya Rai’s delivery. An internal memo dated November 5, 2011, lists ten points that will govern the media coverage of Aishwarya Rai giving birth to her first born. As the country gets ready to welcome Aishwarya-Abhishek’s first child, the media has also readied itself for the big day. Speculations have already begun on when the child will be born.

Typically, such a story would be great grist for the channels. In the past anything concerning the Bachchans, whether it was Amitabh’s illness, the Aiswarya-Abhishek wedding or Aishwarya Rai’s Karva Chauth, all generated a great media scrum. But now, in a bid to tone down their celebrity coverage channels have decided upon the following guideline while covering the birth of Amitabh Bachchan’s grandchild:

» No pre-coverage of the event.
» Story of the birth of the baby to run only after, and on the basis of, official announcement.
» Story not to run on breaking news band.
» No camera or OB vans at hospital or any other location (like the Bachchans’ homes Pratiksha or Jalsa) related to the story.
» Channels will only go for photo-op or press conference if invited.
» Channels will not carry any MMS or photo of the child. We can carry if issued by the family
» No astrology show to be done on this issue.
» No 11.11.11 astro shows to be done.
» The duration of story to be around a minute/ninety seconds.
» Obviously, unauthorized entry into hospital not permitted.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Reaction, Comments, Tweets over the issue of Media Coverage of Ash’s Delivery

Amitabh Bachchan, has just tweeted on some reports earlier which said the Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) had banned TV channels from placing reporters and cameras outside hospitals.
Mr. Bachchan began his series of tweets refuting reports that he had asked the I&B Ministry to block news of Aishwarya’s delivery. He tweeted.

“Absolute rubbish. “Firstly I have no such intention ever, secondly do you really think I&B would listen to me !?? No way baby !”

He then goes on to say that someone from the media has sent him a message asking him (Big B has posted this message on his official blog as well)

” .. to respect ur family’s privacy n women’s dignity all tv news networks decided not to follow aishwarya’s pregnancy or delivery. Not a single line news till official announcement. No camera’s and OBs will be stationed at your place or hospital. Regards ..” Mr Bachchan claims an order from the I&B to the media may have been attributed to the Bachchans attempting to block all news of Aishwarya’s delivery.

Mr Bachchan ended this round of his frequent jostling with the media by reaching out to his Twitter followers, who he refers to as his extended family.
“BUT ..!! No worries TwXmFt ! Every other day some ridiculous, malicious and completely false allegations are thrown at me ! Smiley

This is what Big B has mentioned over the issue of 11/11/11 being made Ash’s delivery date;

“The entire day and afternoon has been spent in laughing among ourselves and ROTF (Rolling On the Floor) on the ridiculous time and attention being given in the electronic media on the birthday of Aishwarya…all of which is completely and entirely made up,”

But while the coverage for all channels has been curbed, no such directive has been issued to the print media.

The whole matter seems totally ridiculours with many many media people even rejecting the same. While some have accepted it, some are of the belief that it is a new form of censorship. One of the broadcaster said, “Is this self regulation or censorship? And why only for this story? Isn’t it ironic that a move which seeks to curb publicity will find a mention in all the newspapers tomorrow?”

The Broadcast Editors’ Association has over three hundred channels as its members, and has sent a memo to all the channels. When contacted by a daily, NK Singh, general secretary of the BEA refused to discuss the media move and just said, “The main purpose (of the guideline) is to make Indian electronic news media more value-based and purposeful for broader public cause. I cannot respond to your email per se but I can only tell you about the sublime purpose which the BEA is seeking to achieve.”

Aishwarya Rai Admitted in Seven Hills City Hospital for Delivery
