Delhi declared war against fashion sinners last Friday, as HT City kicked off its special series Style In The City. Hundreds of fashionably awakened Delhiites joined our mission of making the Capital dress better. Today, we feature two of our lucky readers, Devanshi Tuli and Aditya Verma, who got a style makeover by our team of experts at Claridges Hotel, Delhi, on Friday. Our reporter Navdeep Kaur Marwah gives you a peek into the Brand Factory’s fashion sensibilities. Devanshi Tuli, 17, class 12 student
Devanshi Tuli, a class 12 student of Manav Sthali School has her wardrobe full of skimpy dresses. “She can’t think beyond dresses. I wish I could see her in an Indian attire,” her mom told us. Taking a hint from that, designer Rimple Narula picked up an anarkali kurta in gauzy tulle and digitally printed silk, with an embellished yoke featuring bead work and Kashmiri aari work for her. Makeup artist Richa Agarwal kept her look simple – a peachy base, pink lip gloss, and hair left open with soft swirls. “I never knew that Indian attire can make me look so pretty! I’ll wear this outfit to my friend’s wedding next month. Thank you HT City,” said a delighted Devanshi after her makeover.
Aditya Verma, 23, engineering student
Aditya Verma, a fourth year student of Northern India Engineering College, Delhi says he has been wearing tight tees and denim all his life. “This is what looks best at me. I don’t want to experiment with my looks,” he told us. It was quite a task convincing this youngster to slip into the linen textured kurta with a stylised neckline and cuffs, teamed with a churidaar. His slightly longish curls were chopped and straightened to enhance his jawline, with some front flicks to hide his broad forehead. This is what Aditya had to say after the makeover: “OMG! Can’t believe it’s me! I’ve never worn a kurta in my life! I just love my look. I am looking so different. Thank you so much for making me wear something Indian!”
